Your Purpose — From My Heart

Ken W Stone

Have you ever thought about your purpose?

Do you wish it could be handed to you on a silver platter?

Wouldn’t that be lovely!

***

My journey to discovering the purpose for this part of my life has been circuitous at best.

Each point in the journey no less critical in moving me forward, no matter how obscure they seemed at the time.

***

Snapshots of those “pivotal moment” along the way include:

Not getting on the bus in the early 90’s – when I was invited to go on tour with Waylon Jennings as a sound engineer.

(when healing came along I asked myself: “am I not going to get on the bus again?”)

Hiring a business coach named Lynn early in my mortgage career.

She gave me a copy of “The Power of Now.”

Six months later I read this book and cried nearly the whole way through it. I could tell I was reading the truth.

(The awareness of this book is/was profound. Paradoxically, each time I re-read the book the gap between knowledge and experience grew. This tension became increasingly unbearable over time – which contributed to me eventually taking a meditation retreat in August of 2007 – which led to the in-residence retreat the next month – which is where I heard “you should be working as a healer” from Lin David Martin – a fellow participant.)

Reading the book “The Way of the Peaceful Warrior” in November of 2006 at my good friend Scott’s suggestion.

(I had been reading Buddhist philosophy from time to time in the years prior and never understood the focus on meditating on one’s death. There’s a scene in this book that I remember this way: he is watching his body lay down in a field, die, and decay. Yet here HE is on the side of the field. I read this and CLICK – something dropped into place.  Iam not my body … and I started to awaken.)

Reading the book “The Master Key System” in March and April of 2007.

(This book is all about enhancing one’s visualization skills. As I was doing the exercises from this book I was asking “what is my purpose?”  6 months later I got my answer.)

Becoming a mortgage lender in the late 90’s.

(Without the experience of struggling to find a way to more deeply serve and connect with my clients – and failing (succeeding) to do so in the context of that business, I would have never listened to Lin’s comment at the retreat).

Spectacularly (financially) failing at a business that was born as I was awakening.

(If that business had succeeded I would have never paid attention to Lin. I wouldn’t have been financially humbled through a bankruptcy and foreclosure).

***

And on and on.

I could write a book about how, looking back on it all, one thing led to another.

And here I am.

Continuing to explore my purpose and step into the unknown – now with you.

***

The perspective about these – and many other formative moments and experiences – came only later.

So it is on the journey to purpose.

***

Our desire is to see the entire journey from wherever in this moment through to the “finish” line.

This desire is radically amplified when it comes to purpose.

However, with purpose it’s always so big that only the next step or two is clear (if even that!).

***

The power and experience of a life lived in resonance is profound.

And all the more so when all aspects of life are an expression of resonance.

Let that be an indication of purpose: moving forward in resonance.

***

Sometimes moving forward in resonance is a big step – a stretch.

And other times it’s reading a book.

***

Sometimes the move towards resonance brings up some dissonance for attention.

And other times it’s all in flow.

***

Where are you feeling drawn towards great resonance in your life?

That’s it for this week … From My Heart.

Peace,

Ken
