Empathy — From My Heart

Ken W Stone

Do you ever have a hard time seeing it from someone else’s perspective or understanding what could possible possess someone who is doing something you can’t understand?

Happens to me all the time.

When it does, I try to remember that all human behavior is driven or motivated by the illusion of separation.

***

Here’s how I visualize this:

The Illusion of Separation Continuum
<————\——————————|——————/—————>

Here’s the key: ALL human behavior fits on this continuum. As do all of us – alive now, in history, yet to come. EVERYONE.

When I look at this and really accept the truth of this, these are some of the questions that come up for me:

If this is true, is there such a thing as “evil”?

If there is, doe that mean we are all evil?

If there isn’t what separates us from our brothers and sisters around the globe and throughout history?

What about the particularly despicable participants from our human our history? Hitler? Pol Pot?

What about the particularly extraordinary participants from our history? Jesus? Muhammed? Buddha? Gandhi?

What separates us?

***

What (if anything?) differentiates us with God? Are some people more or less deserving of Divine love?

Does the Divine allocate a greater measure of love for someone like Jesus, and less (or none?) for someone like Hitler?

What about you? Is there anything YOU could do or think or say that would diminish or sever your Divine connection?

***

How does your perspective on these questions inform the way you respond to others in your day-to-day life?

It affects me big time!

A couple of months ago I got an email from a wonderful marketing agency focused on sharing spiritual messages. Normally I don’t make time for this type of thing, but this day and email were different.

They were sharing an email and wondered if I was interested in sharing it with my tribe as a free resource.

I watched the movie. It was profound.

It is such a powerful illustration of what I have been thinking about – and what I’ve shared with you above. I started thinking about the movie after reflecting and meditating on this week’s From My Heart. So I tracked down the link.

I want you to watch this movie after you’ve taken a few minutes (or hours or days) to think about the questions and answers that come up for you around this.

Here’s the link to the movie (it’s free).

And once you’ve watched it, I’d love to hear from you. Your reflections on the questions that I’ve shared above, with your perspective and your insights. What you think of the movie. And anything else that may be on your mind. Just hit reply to this email.

Here’s to remembering and experiencing who we really are … and in the process, letting go of our separation, our judgments, and our pain and suffering.

Here’s to greater empathy in our everyday with every person.

And with each breath, may you more fully experience your true nature and experience the Divine love that is erupting within you, looking for ways to express itself – within you, within your family, in your community, and in the world.

That’s it for this week … From My Heart.

With love and gratitude that we’re connected in this way.

Peace,

Ken
