The Importance of Embodied Spiritual Knowledge
As I’ve been sitting with our community over the last week, one theme keeps coming up: It’s the importance of embodied spiritual knowledge. By this I mean, knowledge that comes from sustaining direct experiences of the Divine, rather than from ideas.
Intellectual knowledge alone does not create meaningful change, for no matter what effort or knowledge may be exercised or acquired, no meaningful or sustaining change can be made by simply knowing. For example, the knowledge that you are a child of God doesn’t lead to the experience of this truth, and without an experience of it, no real transformation can ever take place.
Once a sustaining experience of being a child of God is experienced, everything else begins to change, often in very subtle ways initially. Once this experience is fully integrated, the perceptual lens through which you view, interpret, and experience yourself and the world is fundamentally altered, and a new experience of reality begins to unfold. For example, a sustaining experience of the peace of God, no matter what else might be going on in the world.
Embodied spiritual knowledge is the key to breaking the life pattern of constantly chasing something more important than anything else on the hamster wheel of life, but never arriving. It is essential not only in realizing our full potential, but also in making small sustained shifts from a life focused on overcoming dissonance, to living in deep resonance.
When a direct experience of God blossoms in your experience and awareness, everything changes. You likely already have embodied knowledge of this, because it’s already happened for you. Maybe many times.
If you’re among the small group of people for whom this experience sustains, congratulations!
If you’re not yet having a sustaining, direct experience of the Divine within your being, it’s not because you’re doing something wrong. You are on a developmental spiritual journey. Just like a builder who is building a house. First the foundation, then the framing for the first floor. Then the walls, and so on, until eventually the roof is attached. However elusive it may feel to you in this moment, I assure you an experience of your spiritual house, fully built isn’t just possible—it is available now. Not as an idea, but as an embodied experience.
God’s expression through me opens an experience of the entire house of your spiritual developmental journey all right now. So even if it feels like you’re struggling to pour the foundation, or figure out where the house will be built, you can still have an experience of your entire house. Fully built, right now.
To do this, we won’t be engaged in thinking about it or visualizing it. The experience will flood through your entire being and eventually into your mind as an afterthought . . . an idea that is the result of an experience, rather than an idea that causes an experience.
Although this focus on embodied knowledge always seems important—even critical, from my perspective—right now this theme is front and center for nearly everyone on the planet. For how, in the face of a global pandemic, are we to come home and be who we really are if we are trying to think or feel our way through whatever challenges, fears, or obstacles might be presenting?
Exploring this question with words will quickly return us to the negative feedback loop of thoughts and trying to solve thinking or feeling problems with more thoughts or feelings. Rather than stepping outside the paradigm which this pattern originates from, we would amplify it further.
Instead I want to invite you to an experience so you can begin shifting into embodied knowledge of the Divine within, and the peace and calm which result from this experience, without having to think about how to cause this feeling experience to unfold within your being. A virtual circle that you can participate in whenever it’s good for you.
If you’re feeling pinched for time, or wondering how to fit this into your schedule, it’s important you know that people who consistently have an embodied experience of the Divine within have a completely different relationship with time, their to do list, and what is possible in any given day. If that sounds like magical thinking to you, all I can do is invite you to experience it for yourself. BE in the experience of the Divine within, and then later notice what (if anything) shifts or changes.
Every Wednesday at 5p Eastern (US) we gather for a virtual community circle on YouTube and Facebook. It’s free to participate. If you participate live, you’ll have an opportunity to ask me a question and I’ll respond to you as the circle is happening. If you participate through the replay, you can ask your question(s) in the comments below the video (and I’ll respond there in writing). Please share our circle with anyone you think would appreciate an experience of embodied resonance.
Give yourself a break and sink into an experience of the Divine within.
