I used to be a sound engineer – primarily for concerts rather than
studio sessions.  I was very good.  Waylon Jennings offered me
a job (actually his son-in-law Ray Rider offered me a job) when
they came through Missoula, Montana in the summer of 1995.

Do you know the difference is between a concert that sounds so
amazing you want to weep – and concert that makes you want
to run away it sounds so bad?  Could be the same artist – same
sound system, same venue, same band, same everything.

The answer: not much.  It’s a matter of a tweak here and there –
essentially tuning up the system – and tuning up the “mix” – the
volume of each instrument and mic and in relation to each other.

If my experience in the audience of concerts is any indication,
getting to the “so good you want to weep” level of sound
perfection is still illusive for many a sound engineer.

It strikes me that there’s a huge similarity between a great
sounding concert – and being in alignment.  It’s just a matter
of getting tuned up.  And as elusive as “getting tuned up” is
for so many, just like sound – it doesn’t strike me as that is
unachievable.  And unlike sound – where I could only “do”
the mix, I couldn’t teach you how to make it sound good –
getting tuned up to the frequency of the Divine is something
that I can teach you.

Unlike sports skills or business skills or physical or mental
dexterity or visual artistic talent – where you likely either
are born with it or not, everyone can get tuned up and
learn how to tune themselves.

Everyone can do it.  Including you.
