Reflections on Surrender

Ken W Stone

The poetry of your soul is only able to fully express once you have surrendered, for to remain in separation is to hold divine grace at arm’s length, preferring instead to create on your own.

Think of the most beautiful moments of your life. The greatest joy you’ve ever experienced. The most profound experiences of kindness.

Who was responsible for these?

I don’t mean to suggest you have no impact on what unfolds in your life. Instead, no matter how you may have honed and refined your mastery of personal power, it is but a flickering candle in comparison to the bonfire of Divine Presence.

The complete expression of Divine Presence is beyond your or anyone’s ability to imagine. That’s one of the points of surrender. Whatever you can dream up, it pales in comparison—and that’s assuming that your dream is aligned and resonant.

If this makes surrender sound like a magical theme park where the most profound and beyond imagination dreams become reality let me say this: God’s expression as you may well fit into this context for you, but that hasn’t been my experience.

I’m not saying I would trade any part of my ongoing experience and exploration with surrender, or of what has unfolded in my life as a direct result of having surrendered. I’m simply saying that my journey of letting go of control from the perspective of my separate self (the part of me that is doing the surrendering) has been challenging.

God’s grace, unconditional love, and much more floods in more fully each time I surrender more completely. And often times that flooding in process takes me somewhere that wasn’t part of the map I had previously set out for my life or understood about what was to come.

A member of the community emailed in response to a recent From My Heart to extend our written conversation on surrender. The questions she asked go straight to the mechanics of how I surrendered.

My answers bring up a fundamental limitation which accompanies explorations of spirituality—never more true than when exploring surrender. My experience and approach are particular to how my separate self approaches and goes through the integration process. Yours may well be different.

I’ll be sharing her questions – and my answers later today, in this week’s YouTube livestream. I hope you’ll join me as we gather virtually as a community to explore with words, and more importantly to sink into an embodied experience of resonance—of the Divine within.

That’s it for this week . . . From My Heart.

We are always in God’s Presence and Love,

Ken
