Transmission and the Impossible Language of Divine Intimacy

Transmission and the Impossible Language of Divine Intimacy

In the first few years I shared God’s expression through me with others, I had no language for what was unfolding.

I remember I got a call at one point from someone who had been referred to me and wanted to know what to expect. I said: “something like an experience of God in your body” and he said “that’s a book I’d like to read.” I responded: that’s the extent of what I can say about it – but if you want to have the experience, let me know.

When people asked me questions about what was happening, I strained to try to describe anything. My feet buzzed, my hands buzzed, my body would shake uncontrollably, spontaneous noises would escape from my mouth as air was forced out of my lungs by convulsions through my entire body. Beyond that I couldn’t say – I had no words. It just happened.

One of the people I was working with in early 2009 was a man with advanced stage cancer. He had been referred by someone who was doing regular work with me. It was my habit to ask how he was doing, and on this day the response that poured out when I asked was full of the emotional upset and frustration he was experiencing as he was trying to chase the “magic bullet” – the thing that would heal his cancer so his life wouldn’t be cut short.

I remember experiencing what he was talking about as he shared. Before I could stop myself I said: Ohh my gosh – I don’t want to be part of the overwhelm. I’m going to give you something you can take with you, that you’ll have with you no matter what is unfolding. He looked at me expectantly as I silently checked in: God?! What’s going on – how am I going to do that? Is this something new (feet buzzing) and you’ll show me what to say (feet buzzing). To him I said, close your eyes – and started to speak the images that were being given to me.

What followed is what I came to call Divine Connecting Breath (DCB) – it’s a guided meditation. I often open group sessions with people who are new to my work with it. It’s a powerful bridge between an experience you’re having within yourself that has absolutely nothing to do with me (except that I am guiding you through it) and what follows when we drop into Transmission. If you’re interested in experiencing DCB – you can find a video of in-person training I did in August of 2009 here.

When I started working with groups in 2009, people were asking me what was going on, what I was doing, and how they could do the same thing on their own. I kept putting requests – and eventually demands – into God: please show me what I’m supposed to teach!

The persistent challenge – it sustains to this day – is that what is unfolding when we’re sitting together is impossible for me to put into words. I’m typically capable of getting to language for the things that were going on in session 8–10 years ago – that’s how long it takes for me to embody and integrate it, to the point where I’m consciously aware of the language that is a placeholder, for what is going on at a depth where there is no language.

Transmission is one of those rare exceptions. I needed a way to differentiate between Divine Connecting Breath – at the beginning of the session – and the point at which something more than meditation was unfolding. The word “Transmission” came to describe this – not because it’s something that’s emanating from me to the individual or each participant in a group, but because it is a transmission from God. An Embodied Divine Transmission.

From my perspective, Divine Presence is already in everyone and everything. The only question is: Are we having an experience of it? Part of the manner in which God expresses through me opens this very experience directly within the individual – and Transmission is the placeholder word I use for this experience. If you participate in a live session or listen to the complete replay of it, you’ll hear me say ‘let’s begin’ at the start of the transmission.

The language of divine intimacy is nearly impossible, for language itself is born of separation, and when speaking of the truth or referencing it, separation itself is an illusion.

If you’d like to experience what I’m attempting to put into words here, I invite you to experience a recent group Transmission. About 2,300 people purchased a ticket to experience this Transmission – with about 1,100 on the line live as it was unfolding.

One of the aspects of the Divine Mystery that is even more extraordinary is that time and space fall away when the illusion is fully integrated. And while I certainly have plenty left to integrate, when I’m in session with individuals and groups the illusion for the most part doesn’t exist in my lived experience. As a result, the Transmission is part of the recording – whether in silence or with words. You’ll have to experience this for yourself to see what I’m trying to talk about. In any case, someone on my team logged the number of participants – I never have a clue – because for me, I am experiencing everyone who will ever participate.

Perhaps this will open a meaningful experience of Divine Presence within your body, for you.

It’s an honor to walk with you in this way.

Love,
Ken
