Radio Silence — From My Heart

Have you ever taken time to go into radio silence?

It’s one thing to stop talking, but what about being cut off from email, or texting or the Internet?

What do you think would come up for you?

***

Looking back on the last week, I had NO clue what would come up for me in that situation!! I just returned from a 6-day retreat at a monastery near Aspen Colorado yesterday. This was my second visit – the first was two years ago.

Whereas the first visit was in some ways more predictable (you can read my From My Heart about his retreat here http://kenwstone.com/healing-a-wound-from-my-heart/), this visit was anything but predictable.

I think I’ve hinted at some deep inner work that I’ve been feeling called to attend to. Let’s just say that the work I’ve been doing all summer long set up this retreat perfectly!!

Here are just a few insights from my week of (radio) silence:

==> When you’re by yourself and patterns that show up in “regular” life keep showing up, there’s only one person who can be responsible for the pattern. 🙂

==> The habit of distraction can be easy to gloss over in regular life. When you don’t have anything to distract you, you get to work on the stuff that’s up for attention. No matter how unpleasant.

==> In the end, it’s all about surrender. Surrendering pride. Surrendering control. Surrendering. Even when you’re super tuned into the feeling of God inside, it’s still REALLY hard to surrender. Even when you KNOW it’s the pathway to spiritual liberation and freedom. No matter how hard, the peace and grace you experience on the other side of surrender is literally beyond words.

==> Coming back into balance inside yourself is really important. Scheduling time to do so is a really good idea. Don’t play small when scheduling this time – it may be the most important thing you do in your life.

==> Whatever you’ve been resisting will eventually erupt into your life when there’s enough room for it to express. Your efforts to stay busy and push it down eventually will not be enough to hold it back. The only question is one of how it will be birthed.

And the awareness will, I suspect, continue to reveal itself in the days and months to come.

My question to you is: Are you interested? Are you curious to see what would unfold in your life? Would you like to try radio silence for a day – or even a weekend?

I’m interested in hearing from you and the awareness that comes up for you!

That’s it for this week … From My Heart.

Peace,

Ken
